Merlin Holland: Busting the Myths of Oscar Wilde

Since the death of Oscar Wilde in 1900, his legacy has been marred by countless mistruths, exaggerations and fabrications. Merlin Holland, Wilde’s grandson, busts these myths in his new book After Oscar: The Legacy of a Scandal. In this talk for The Oscar Wilde Society, Holland explains why he wrote the book and discusses some of the conjectures he sought to debunk, starting with the allegation that Wilde died of syphilis.
