  1. Dear Mr. Holland,

my name is Nikolett Lukács, I live in Hungary. Last year I publicated my book about your grandfather, Oscar Wilde, which is the first biography that contains the hungarian and foreign effects of Wilde’s art and the film adaptations about his life. The title is: Oscar Wilde- Live, life work, heritage”. I ‘d like to tell you, that his life and works were allways determinative in my life and scientific works.

I hope that you’re happy about it.

    Best regards,
    Nikolett Lukács PhD.

  2. I’m a retired professional writer (in New Jersey, USA). I originally worked as a newspaper reporter, but spent most of my career writing for companies such as AT&T, IBM, Vanguard, and others with which you’d likely be unfamiliar.

I’ve admired Oscar Wilde’s brilliant plays and his novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” since I first encountered them many decades ago.

I’ve long lamented that his sexual orientation and the legal travails he endured deprived us of one of the greatest playwrights in modern history. For me, there is no greater literary wit than Oscar Wilde.

I’m currently reading the biography “Oscar Wilde, A Life” by Matthew Sturgis. I was wondering how your Society and (in particular) how Merlin Holland view that biography. For example: Is it considered an accurate portrayal of his life and his trial?

Note: I’m only 282 pages into the biography, so the focus is still on the early part of his career, before he wrote his first successful play.

I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience. Thank you.

    Sincerely, Wayne Deleo

  3. Hello, Wayne! The Society and Merlin think that Matthew’s biography is probably the best one yet, rivalled really only by the Richard Ellmann biography. We are glad you are enjoying it!

  4. Hi, Craig. Sorry for the late response. Merlin is super busy on his own book and doesn’t have any signing events planned.

  5. Hello,
I recently wrote a short story about Wilde’s play, Salomé (in French).
I includes excerpts from the play at some point, amounting to something like a page of quotation (for 48 pages of original work).
If you have any issues with that, please do contact me.

  6. Dear Mr. Holland,
My name is Nour Mohamed. I am an English major, and I was to make a research on a topic I found interesting.
On reading The Picture of Dorian Gray and watching its 2009 movie adaptation, Dorian Gray, I decided to make the research about double life between Dorian Gray and Lord Henry Wotton, because the adaptation has highlighted this.
I was hoping to have a discussion with Mr. Holland on this if possible. Thank you.
    All best wishes,
    Nour Mohamed.
